Dog Clothes For Winter

It's not as silly as it sounds to dress your dog in a jacket or vest. In the winter, the extra layer can provide a great deal of comfort to certain breeds of dogs.

According to Pets WebMD, even dogs with thick coats can get cold in the winter. Pets are equally as susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia as their owners.

Small dogs, especially those weighing less than 10 pounds, and larger dogs with short fur or low body fat need special attention when it's cold. They have less fat and a lower ratio of body surface area to total body weight, so little dogs lose body heat more quickly than large dogs. Thermoregulation is difficult in puppies and elderly dogs. On a chilly day, some elderly and recovering sick canines will appreciate the warmth. 

Keeping your dog warm is simple. Similar precautions you take to keep yourself safe will also keep your dearest companion warm. No dog is meant to spend all winter outside. A thick coat can't protect everything. So, stay indoors and only take them outside for a short stroll. A lovely jacket, vest or even a blanket can make your pet more comfortable. 

In a nutshell, the fundamental rule of thumb for our dogs is that if you're cold enough to wear a sweater outside, they will be as well.
